About
Ahonui meaning perseverance was the best fitting word that defined Holly and her hard work in making this dream soon a reality. “Ahonui Works” is a non-profit born from her unwavering dedication and passion to create a nurturing environment for our children and future generations. Through persistence and determination, we aim to establish a network of pump tracks throughout Hawaii, achieving our vision for a healthier, more active community. A pump track is defined as a circular like track for cycling, skateboarding, rollerblading, and other activities that uses a rider’s body movements to propel them forward. We are committed to making it happen! With perseverance and hard work, we’ll bring pump tracks to every island, promoting outdoor fun and healthy lifestyles across Hawaii.

What is a Pump Track?
What is a Pump Track?
A pump track is a type of bike park or trail designed for riders to propel themselves using a “pumping” motion, without pedaling. It’s typically a flowing circuit of rollers and berms that allow riders to generate speed and momentum by moving their bodies up and down, using the bike’s momentum to carry them through.
Pump tracks are super popular among mountain bikers, BMX riders, and even some motocross enthusiasts! They’re a great way to improve skills like timing, balance, and flow, and can be ridden at various speeds, making them accessible to riders of different skill levels.
Some pump tracks are designed for specific disciplines, like mountain biking or BMX, while others are more general-purpose. They’re often found in bike parks, skate parks, or dedicated pump track facilities.

Naming the Pump Tack Park : Mo’olelo around Hawaii
As we considered names for our pump track, we felt it was essential to draw inspiration from the rich cultural heritage of the location. We propose naming our pump track after a mo’olelo specific to the Waimānalo area. This idea was sparked by my son, who suggested naming a potential pump track in Kane’ohe “Bamboo Track”. We’re eager to build upon this concept by incorporating educational elements into our pump track design.Involvement with our project would not only enhance your student’s learning experiences but also provide opportunities for growth, skill building and community engagement. We envision a sign or plaque on-site that shares the story behind the name, providing an opportunity to teach our community and visitors about the mo’olelo and its connection to the location. Involving the keiki in this project will give them a sense of pride and ownership as they would have a lasting impact on our community. We envision pump tracks across Hawaii and it would give us an opportunity to share every mo’olelo around Hawaii. We believe this approach will not only honor the cultural heritage of Waimānalo but also promote awareness and appreciation for Hawaii’s rich storytelling traditions.Mahalo for considering our proposal. We look forward to sharing more about this project and exploring ways to collaborate.
